The Foursquare Church, officially the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel, was founded in Los Angeles, California, by Aimee Semple McPherson in 1923.
Amid the revival days of the early 1900′s, this fellowship of believers was born, determined to proclaim the solid scriptural core of Pentecostal renewal, avoiding the extremes of fanaticism on one hand and materialism on the other.
God, in His grace, has allowed us to grow from the one local fellowship to nearly 2000 churches in the United States and Canada. The Foursquare Church has also been established in over 90 countries of the world. These numbers are quickly increasing.
We have no desire to complete or compare. We rejoice for every body of believers which lifts the blood stained banner of Jesus Christ. The Foursquare Church is a member of the National Association of Evangelicals (NAE) and as a Pentecostal Church is affiliated with the Pentecostal-Charismatic Churches of North America (PCCNA) and the Pentecostal World Conference.
“Foursquare” is a biblical term that described the altar in the Book of Exodus (27:1), the courtyard of the Lord’s temple (Ezekiel 40:47), and Heaven itself (Revelation 21:16). It represents that which is equally balanced on all sides, established, and enduring. Such confidence in the power of the Gospel is also expressed by the verse, Hebrews 13:8, displayed in all Foursquare churches proclaiming, Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever. Hebrews 13:8.
Here at Hope Chapel, as in all the churches in our denomination, our vision is to present Jesus Christ, God’s Son, to every person in every culture and nation as the Savior (Romans 10:9), the Baptizer with the Holy Spirit (Luke 3:16), the Healer (1Peter 2:24), and the soon-returning King (Acts 1:11).
